Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
This policy explains how Premium for Roam Community is billed, how to cancel it, and when you can get your money back. It is part of our Terms of Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
"Roam Community", "we", "us" and "our" mean Roam Community LLC. "You" means the person who holds the Roam Community account. The account holder, or the person who paid (as shown on the receipt), can cancel or ask for a refund.
The short version#
This summary doesn't replace the full policy below. If the two differ, the full policy controls.
- Roam Community is free to use. Premium is an optional paid upgrade.
- Premium costs $35.99 per year, billed annually. It renews automatically each year until you cancel. You can buy it on the web or, through Apple's App Store, in our iPhone app.
- Cancel any time with Cancel Premium on the Manage account page, or by emailing us. If you bought Premium in the App Store, cancel it in your Apple Account's Subscriptions settings instead. No fees, no calls, no questions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription.
- When you cancel, you keep Premium until the end of the year you've paid for (or the end of your free trial). Then your account goes back to free, and your saved data stays.
- Your first purchase: ask within 30 days of your first Premium charge, including the first charge after a free trial, and we'll refund it in full.
- Renewals: if a yearly renewal goes through that you didn't want, ask within 30 days of that charge and we'll refund it in full.
- App Store purchases: Apple decides refunds, and we can't issue them (see Purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play).
- For anything else, write to support@roam.community and we'll work with you, case by case.
Premium and how it's billed#
What Premium includes#
The map, campground availability, alerts, tree cover, terrain grade, FCC-reported cell coverage and the current time on timed layers are free. Premium adds:
- carrier signal-strength heat maps (how strong each carrier says its signal is, from the coverage models carriers file with the FCC, not measured reception)
- rivers, tides and tidal currents
- noise and light pollution
- snow depth
- campground filters
- trail routes: planning a route and following it
- other times on timed layers, such as other forecast hours, other months of climate averages and other weeks of fall foliage
- fall foliage outside September–November (it's free in season)
The app marks locked features with a lock, and that's always the current list. Premium belongs to your Roam Community account, not to a device. Whether you buy it on the web or in our iPhone app, it works on the web and in our iOS and Android apps (once they're available) when you sign in to the same Roam Community account.
Price and billing#
- Price. Premium costs $35.99 per year, billed annually. The price and billing terms shown when you subscribe are the ones that apply to you. On the web, in the US and Canada, sales tax may be added at checkout where it applies; elsewhere, the price shown includes VAT or similar taxes. Outside the US, the App Store shows a local price, set by Apple's price tiers.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically each year, and we charge your payment method at the start of each new year, until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize us, through our payment processor, to make these charges. If you bought Premium in the App Store, Apple charges the payment method on your Apple Account instead.
- Your agreement. Before you're charged, we show you the price, the billing interval, any free trial, that Premium renews automatically until you cancel and how to cancel, and ask you to agree.
- Where you can buy. Premium is sold on the web at roam.community, through a secure checkout page run by RevenueCat, our billing provider. Stripe processes the payment, and we never see or store your full card number. It's also sold in our iPhone app, as an in-app purchase through Apple's App Store, where Apple bills you under its terms (see Purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play). Our Android app doesn't sell Premium.
- Billing emails. For web purchases, RevenueCat sends receipts and other billing emails for us, such as cancellation, failed-payment and refund notices. Receipts sent after a payment, and payment-problem emails, link to the customer portal. For App Store purchases, Apple sends the receipts.
- Renewal reminder. Before each yearly renewal of a web subscription, we'll email you a reminder with the price, the renewal date and how to cancel.
Free trial#
If a free trial is offered, it lasts 7 days.
- You can get one if you've never made a purchase from us on your account. A trial you started counts, even if you cancelled it, and a refund doesn't make you eligible again. We may refuse a trial if we think someone is creating accounts to get repeated trials. In the App Store, Apple decides who gets the trial, for each Apple Account.
- You'll enter a payment method to start it, but you won't be charged during it.
- Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it turns into a paid subscription. We charge $35.99 when the trial ends (in the App Store, Apple charges the App Store price), then once a year after that. The Manage account page shows the date of your first charge.
- To avoid any charge, cancel before the trial ends with Cancel Premium or by email, or, for an App Store trial, in your Apple Account's Subscriptions settings (see How to cancel). You keep Premium until the trial ends.
- If the trial turns into a charge you didn't want, ask within 30 days and we'll refund it in full (see Refunds). Apple decides refunds for App Store purchases.
If a payment fails#
If a renewal payment on the web fails, we'll keep trying to collect it for up to 30 days. You may keep Premium during a short grace period. After that Premium switches off, but if a later attempt succeeds you'll be charged, Premium comes back, and your billing date moves to that day. While we're trying, the Manage account page shows Payment problem, with Update card and Cancel Premium. To stop the attempts, use Cancel Premium, the link in the payment-problem email, or email us. We never charge late fees. For an App Store subscription, Apple handles failed payments under its terms.
Price changes#
If we change Premium's price, it applies to new subscriptions; your subscription keeps the price you signed up at. If your subscription ends and you subscribe again later, the price at that time applies. If we ever need to change the price of an existing subscription, we'll email you before the new price applies, as the law requires (in California, 7 to 30 days ahead), and you can cancel.
How to cancel#
We want happy members, not hostages. You can cancel Premium yourself, online, at any time, without calling us or explaining why.
Cancel in the app#
If you bought Premium on the web:
- Open Account and tap the bar with your name at the top to open Manage account.
- Under Your plan, tap Cancel Premium. This opens the customer portal run by RevenueCat, our billing provider. If it asks for your email address instead, enter the one you paid with and open the sign-in link it sends you.
- Choose to cancel your subscription, and confirm.
The same portal shows your next payment and lets you update your card, download receipts and undo a cancellation before your Premium ends.
Other ways to cancel#
- From an email. Receipts sent after a payment, and payment-problem emails, link to the same portal. This works even if you can't sign in to the app. During a free trial you won't have a receipt yet, so cancel with Cancel Premium or by email.
- By email. Ask us at support@roam.community, from the address on your account or receipt (or tell us one of them; if you write from another address, we may ask you to confirm from it first). We'll cancel within one business day and reply to confirm. If you're charged after you asked us to cancel, we'll refund that charge in full.
Cancel an App Store subscription#
If you bought Premium in our iPhone app, Apple bills you, so you cancel it with Apple: on your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Roam Community. Or, in the app, open Manage account and tap Manage in the App Store. Cancelling on the web or by emailing us doesn't cancel an App Store subscription, and neither does deleting the app or your Roam Community account.
What happens when you cancel#
- Confirmation. If you cancel in the portal, you'll get an email confirming it, and the Manage account page shows the date your Premium ends.
- You keep Premium until the end of the year you've paid for (or until your free trial ends). Then Premium ends and you won't be charged again.
- No cancellation fees, and no refund for unused time. We don't prorate. But if you're within 30 days of your first charge or of a renewal, you can still ask for a full refund of that charge (see Refunds), and Premium then ends right away.
- You can change your mind. Until your Premium ends, tap Resubscribe on the Manage account page, or turn renewal back on in the portal. For an App Store subscription, turn it back on in your Apple Account's Subscriptions settings.
- Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription. Neither does signing out or no longer using Roam Community, and deleting your Roam Community account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription.
When Premium ends#
However Premium ends (you cancelled, a payment couldn't be collected or a refund was issued), your account goes back to the free plan.
- Premium layers switch off and lock. Free layers keep working.
- Campground filters are kept but stop applying. If you get Premium again, they're where you left them.
- Trail routes lock. A trip already in progress can finish. Your saved routes stay in your account, and you can still delete them under Your routes in the Account panel, but you can't view or follow them until you have Premium again.
- Your account and data stay. We don't delete anything because Premium ended.
- It can take up to about an hour for the change to show in the app.
If you delete your account#
The Manage account page has two buttons. Our Privacy Policy lists exactly what each one deletes and keeps.
- Delete my data deletes most of what you've saved and sent, including saved stays and routes, feedback, usage records and contributions still waiting for review or that we declined. Contributions already on the map stay there, no longer linked to you. It doesn't delete your sign-in account, membership record or purchase records, and it doesn't change your Premium or cancel your subscription.
- Delete account deletes your data and then your account.
- Cancel Premium first. While your web subscription or free trial is set to renew, even while we're retrying a failed payment, the app won't delete your account until you use Cancel Premium, because deleting it wouldn't stop the charges. If you ask us by email to delete your account, we'll cancel your web subscription first.
- App Store subscriptions. Deleting your account doesn't stop Apple's charges either. If your App Store subscription or free trial is set to renew, the app warns you that Apple will keep billing you until you cancel it in your Apple Account's Subscriptions settings, and lets you delete your account anyway. Please cancel it there first.
- Premium ends with the account. If you've cancelled but have paid or trial time left, deleting your account ends that Premium straight away, with no refund for the unused time. If your latest web charge is still within its 30-day refund window, ask us before you delete, or email us afterwards from the address on your receipt.
- Charged after deleting? If you're ever charged on the web after deleting your account, email us and we'll refund that charge in full. Apple decides refunds for App Store charges.
Refunds#
Bad refund policies are infuriating. We never want you to feel stuck with a charge you didn't want, so our rules are simple. They're for Premium bought on the web; Apple decides refunds for App Store purchases (see Purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play).
Full refunds within 30 days#
- Your first purchase. If you ask within 30 days of your first Premium charge, including the first charge after a free trial, we'll refund it in full.
- A renewal you didn't want. If a yearly renewal goes through that you didn't want, ask within 30 days of that renewal charge and we'll refund it in full.
You don't need to give a reason, and we won't check how much you've used Roam Community. A full refund includes any tax you paid.
Everything else, case by case#
For anything else, such as an older charge or a Premium feature that was unavailable for a long stretch because of a problem on our side, send us a note, tell us what's up, and we'll work with you to find a fair answer. Outages of the government and other outside data sources Premium relies on aren't automatically covered.
How to ask for a refund#
Email support@roam.community with the email address on your Roam Community account (and the one on your receipt, if it's different) and the date and amount of the charge, or a copy of the receipt. We answer every refund request, usually within a couple of business days.
How refunds work#
- Refunds are always for a whole payment. We can't refund part of one.
- Refunding your latest charge ends Premium right away and ends your subscription, so you won't be charged again. Refunding an older charge doesn't change your current Premium or your renewal.
- Where the money goes. Refunds go back to the payment method you paid with. If that can't be done, for example because the card was closed, we'll contact you and pay it another way. You'll get an email when we issue a refund, and it usually shows up within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank.
Purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play#
Premium is also sold in our iPhone app, through Apple's App Store. If you buy it there, you buy it from Apple, not from us, and Apple's rules apply. Our Android app doesn't sell Premium yet; if we sell it through Google Play, you'll buy it from Google, and Google's rules will apply in the same way:
- Cancelling. Cancel an App Store subscription in your Apple Account's Subscriptions settings (on iPhone or iPad: Settings, your name, Subscriptions), or open Manage account in the app and tap Manage in the App Store. A Google Play subscription would be cancelled in the Google Play Store app (your profile, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions). Deleting the app, or your Roam Community account, doesn't cancel your subscription.
- Refunds. For App Store purchases, Apple decides all refunds (reportaproblem.apple.com), and we can't issue them, so wherever this policy says we'll refund a charge, that applies only to charges made on the web. For Google Play purchases, if we sell Premium there, start with Google's refund process; if Google sends you to us, we'll apply the 30-day refunds in this policy where Google lets us.
- Restore Purchases. Tap Restore Purchases in the app to tie your Apple Account's existing Premium purchase to the Roam Community account you're signed in to.
- Where to manage. Manage a subscription where you bought it. Cancelling on the web doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription, or the other way round. Paying in two places? Email us and we'll sort it out.
Payment disputes and chargebacks#
If a charge looks wrong, please email us before disputing it with your bank. We can almost always fix it faster. You always keep the right to dispute a charge with your bank or card issuer. If you do:
- Your subscription is cancelled. Opening a dispute cancels your subscription, and Premium may end right away. You'll get an email saying so.
- Your account stays. We don't close an account just because you disputed a charge, but we may if the purchase was fraudulent or broke our Terms.
- We'll answer the dispute. To do that, we may share details of the purchase and how your account was used with our payment processor and your card issuer, as described in our Privacy Policy. If the dispute is decided in your favor, that's your refund for that charge.
- You can subscribe again once the dispute is resolved. We may refuse future purchases from an account that keeps disputing charges it clearly authorized.
If we suspend or end your Premium#
We may suspend or end your account, or your Premium, as described in our Terms of Service. Where we're able to, we'll tell you by email.
- Without cause. If we end Premium or close your account without cause, meaning for any reason other than your breaking the Terms or the law, and you have Premium at the time, we'll refund your latest Premium charge in full. That includes stopping Premium or shutting down Roam Community.
- Suspensions. If we suspend Premium for a reason that isn't your fault, we'll add the lost time at no charge.
- If you broke the Terms or the law. If we close your account or end Premium because you broke the Terms or the law, whether to refund is our decision, except where the law requires one.
- Under 18. If we close an account because its holder is under 18, we'll cancel any subscription and refund the latest charge in full.
Your legal rights#
This policy adds to the rights the law gives you; it doesn't take any away. If anything here conflicts with a law that applies to you, such as a state automatic-renewal law, the law wins.
Right to withdraw (European Union and United Kingdom)#
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can withdraw from your Premium subscription within 14 days of subscribing, or of starting your free trial, without giving a reason. To withdraw, tell us before the 14 days are up, by emailing support@roam.community or by sending us the model form below (you don't have to use it). Cancel Premium on its own only stops renewal, so please email us too. We'll refund all payments under that subscription within 14 days of hearing from you, to the payment method you used, and Premium ends when we do. In practice, the 30-day first-purchase refund already covers this.

Changes to this policy#
We may update this policy. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above. If we make a material change, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it takes effect, by email or with a notice in the app. If a change materially affects a paid subscription, we'll email you about it, with how to cancel, before it takes effect. If you tell us before a material change takes effect that you don't accept it, we'll cancel your subscription and refund your latest charge in full.
Small changes, like fixing typos or making something clearer, take effect when we post them. We may give less notice if a change is needed for legal, safety or security reasons, or if it only adds features. A charge is covered by the refund terms in effect when it was made, and a later change never reduces the refund you could get for an earlier charge.
